perhaps a kaftan

I was thinking the other day about basic patterns and how simple shapes really do give you a wonderful thing to play with
this is a very very rough sketch done in a hurry to help someone make costumes.it is great for kids costumes as you can make it long and belt it and roll the sleeves up etc.also it works well for adults too,we used it countless times to great efffect in our costumes.this is just a starting point,you can cut it up the middle for a coat,put a hood on it,shape the front anyway you want,try assymetric points or anything.you can make it in silk,chiffon-a great summer cover up over beachwear,or try panne velvet or ...well you get my drift.alter necklines,closures lenght anything
