Oooo - someone else who knows about this book! I stumbled across this book on the internet! Someone went to the trouble to post the whole book on the internet and I have used the basic dress pattern to create a sloper. I've not posted any pictures yet, but I've got the links to the web version of this book on my blog.
hi kristen
have just been to the vintage site and yes the whole book is there, mine is the second edition, have had it a long time no point in me posting anymore info and will probably delete this one soon jane
I've loved this book all my working life... I have quite a collection of books from this era...

Kitty - Thanks for trying! I have gone through some life circumstances that have involved a new email address and in the switching over process... well I didn't figure it all out right away. Try now... KrstnDiane.blogspot.com
Okay, this is a new book to me, what is the title? I don't know how I could have been sewing for 40+ years and not have seen this. I have quite an extensive library, too, so I am befuddled. How can I view the online version? Please, please, pretty please?
Great post!

I actually have drafted the princess dress (to have a basic princess sloper) and from it have made a sweatshirt. The other FANTASTIC book on that website is Modern Design by Harriet Pepin and it has Great info on taking an existing fitting pattern and transforming it into something else!
The link to download this book chapter by chapter is http://www.vintagesewing.info/1940s/4x-lgcm/lgcm-toc-long.html
I hope this works. Kitty
OOPS, forgot to add that every chapter has pictures which can be enlarged, (well, usually).
TO retain that feature and the detail, you need to d/l each enlargement into the folder for that chapter. In firefox you just right click on the thumbnail and choose save link as and direct it to the file folder for that chapter.
